Mearns Castle Golf Academy boosted by arrival of new Jacobsen AR530

An all-new Jacobsen AR530 articulated rotary rough mower has joined the maintenance fleet at Mearns Castle Golf Academy.

Head greenkeeper, Jack Glen, at the busy East Renfrewshire site, chose it to replace an 11-year-old Jacobsen AR522.

“It will be out twice a week for 9-10 hours. It is a much more powerful and wider machine than the AR522. The five bigger decks cover ground faster so we will save on time, and it’s giving a precise cut. The mulching process leaves no mess. I’m really pleased.”

This time last season Jack and his team of three, who are responsible for both the nine-hole golf course and 50 covered driving range bays took delivery of a Jacobsen GP400 ride on greens mower and a SLF 530 ride on reels mower.

In the main picture, Jack, centre, is joined by Peter Lafferty, asst greenkeeper, (right), and Fraser Stewart, 1st assistant, on the machine. Russell Aird, asst greenkeeper, was on day off.

Fairways GM’s Stuart Cameron installed the machine and delivered familiarisation training.
