Lone greenkeeper, Peter Moffat, at Wooler Golf Club tends the nine hole, 18 tee site on his own. The course at the village of Doddington is around 15 miles south from Berwick upon Tweed and is next to the Northumberland National Park and gateway to the Cheviot Hills. Lindisfarne and Bamburgh are just a short drive away.
With his previous Jacobsen LF 3800 fairway mower approaching retirement after 20 plus years, Peter and the club’s committee opted for another refurbished Jacobsen to keep the Northumberland course on point.

Groundskeeper, Eddie Smith, (80), at West of Scotland League team, Rutherglen Glencairn FC, has had a 45-year association with the club. A long-time supporter of the South Lanarkshire side, he was bar manager at the Social Club for over ten years, during the 1980s, and later served on its committee in many capacities. Not surprisingly, when the club’s former grounds person retired five years ago, Eddie was the one to step forward.

Kenneth Naylor, Scottish Borders Council’s Fleet Manager, based at Newtown St Boswells, said the purchase prioritised H&S for the Council’s operations team.
"It is great; they go anywhere, do anything. You don’t have trips, falls or vibration worries. Your team is safely positioned on the flat up to 100 metres away. It really is the way forward.”
“We’ll see the season out with it and then bring it back out next year when grass needs to be cut again. We’ve been told if we need more operators trained or if a refresher is needed, then just to get in touch, that’s the sort of support we want from a dealer.”

Joe Loffelman, Course Manager at Liberton Golf Club:
“We sought a reliable runabout that could get us around the course. What I liked most was that it was fairly priced, was very robust and has lots of room. Other machines were smaller in the back, but the Mule has lots of space. You can use it every day for turfing jobs, carrying supplies, moving hand tools…”
“Traditionally we operate with four greenkeepers and an apprentice but in the last few weeks our apprentice qualified and the club confirmed his post, so the good news is we are now a team of five time-served greenkeepers.”

Eoin Riddell, Course Manager at The Royal Dornoch Golf Club:
“Depending on the weather, you would hope to see germination in around a couple of weeks. So far, strike rate, coverage and quality are first class. I knew it would be good, but not unbelievably good. It’s not very often I say this, but the results have blown me away!”
